Oyster Harvest

Under the guidance of Auburn University's Dr. PJ Waters and with help from GSCS Krista Fleming's high school group of 20 students, we raised another successful crop of oysters for Little Lagoon! We had a record year, growing 92,015 advanced stocker sized oysters!

Dr. Waters says,"These oysters represent a restoration potential of 4.547 acres, and an inflation adjusted economic value of$124,238.06 excluding the value of volunteer time."

The oysters have been added to the protected Restoration Reef established in Little Lagoon in 2024.

Enjoy a video of the harvest from Erica Thomas of 1819news.

A huge THANKS to the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils (RC&D) for awarding our grant application to purchase a new water quality monitoring probe and help pay for our oyster gardening expenses.
