Barney & Maxine Gass Scholarship Program
Little Lagoon Preservation Society promotes careers in science by supporting students seeking a baccalaureate degree in a science related major. Scholars in Science recipients receive $5,000 over their 4-year program of study.
Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements
- Current Gulf Shores High School student
- Presently in the graduating class for 2026
- Consistently maintains exemplary grades
- Identified as an ideal candidate by educators and other references
How to Apply
Gulf Shores High School students can apply for the Scholars in Science scholarship in the spring of their graduating year. See your GSHS Guidance Counselor or Krista Marcum for details.

| Ella Gilbert 2025-2029 Scholarship Recipients Ella was a unanimous choice by our Gulf Shores High School and LLPS evaluation team over some stiff competition. She achieved an ACT score of 32 and a GPA of 4.6 out of 4.0 all while taking many AP courses and participating in numerous extracurricular activities. It is evident that Ella has demonstrated keen intellect and competitive excellence throughout her High School years and is one of our nation’s finest young adults. She will attend the University of Alabama this fall and major in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Claire Colvin 2025-2029 Scholarship Recipients While balancing challenging coursework, athletics, and full-time work, Claire remained deeply committed to serving her Gulf Coast community. She participated in environmental restoration efforts, including dune preservation and coastal cleanup projects, and completed a capstone project focused on marine life health. Claire’s leadership, work ethic, and academic achievements have prepared her well for the next chapter. She will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall to study engineering and pursue a future in environmental sustainability. We are so proud of Claire and all she has accomplished! |
Dianna Moore
2024-2028 Scholarship Recipients
Dianna graduated from Gulf Shores High School in 2024. While in High School she was involved in many clubs and leadership roles including Class Officers, Friends of Exceptional Students, Student Ambassadors, National Honors Society, Sustainability Academy and captain of the volleyball team. Dianna scored a 31 on her ACT and graduated with a 4.27 GPA. Dianna loves the Gulf Shores community and worked hard to give back to it during her time there. She participated in Oyster Restoration, Little Lagoon Water Quality Testing, Dune Restoration and Farm to Table. Dianna now attends the University of West Florida where she is pursuing a degree in biomedical sciences. She hopes to one day own her own practice and operate a fully sustainable orthodontist office.
